Pick Your Place, Your Way: Introducing Advanced Filtering

One of the most frequent requests since launching PickYourPlace has been the ability to, well, pick your place. Today, I'm excited to announce that you can do exactly that with our new filtering system.

A Redesigned Interface for Better Navigation

The search interface now resides in the top left, accompanied by a new filtering button that opens a dialog with multiple options. The property information panel has moved to the top right, creating a more intuitive layout for exploring properties.

New Filtering Capabilities

Our new filtering system lets you narrow down properties across four key categories:

• Property Value: Filter by municipal tax assessment values:
  • Affordable (Under $400K)
  • On Budget ($400K - $600K)
  • Mid-Range ($600K - $1M)
  • High-End ($1M - $2M)
  • Luxury ($2M - $5M)
  • Ultra-Luxury (Over $5M)
• Property Type: Choose your preferred style:
  • Detached: Single-family home with private yard
  • Duplex: Two-unit home sharing one structure
  • Townhouse: Multi-floor home with shared walls
  • Apartment: Unit in a multi-family building
• Property Age: Filter by construction date:
  • New (Under 2 years)
  • Recent (3-5 years)
  • Contemporary (6-15 years)
  • Established (16-30 years)
  • Mature (31-50 years)
  • Historic (Over 50 years)
• Lot Size: Search by property area:
  • Compact (Under 5,000 sqft)
  • Standard (5,000 - 10,000 sqft)
  • Spacious (10,000 - 20,000 sqft)
  • Large Lot (20,000 sqft - 1 acre)
  • Estate Size (1 - 5 acres)
  • Acreage (Over 5 acres)

How Filtering Works

The filtering system is both powerful and flexible. Select one option within each category and combine multiple categories to find exactly what you're looking for. Properties that don't match your criteria won't appear on the map, helping you focus only on relevant options—whether you're renting or buying.

Searching for "On Budget" properties ($400K - $600K) in northwest Calgary? The filter highlights affordable areas, showing a clear concentration in the eastern parts of the region.

Property Type Distribution

Looking for duplexes in the northwest? The duplex filter reveals their distribution, with higher concentrations in the southern areas.

New Development Areas

The "New" property age filter instantly reveals recent development in northwest Calgary, highlighting areas of growth and investment—particularly in the northern regions.

Lot Size Availability

Want to find compact properties under 5,000 square feet in the northwest? The lot size filter shows which communities have the highest concentration of these properties.

Each filter tells its own story about Calgary's neighborhoods, helping you make more informed decisions about where to live.
